Sob o olhar de uma mãe: um estudo de caso sobre a socialização de uma criança negra e a construção de sua identidade étnica em uma família inter-racial.

Abstract

The present work aims to understand more about interracial families, how they are formed, and how they can impact the life of a child in formation. Therefore, the focus of the study will be to understand how the socialization of a black child occurs within an interracial family, specifically a child who was socialized by white parents: how this relationship can influence the formation of their values, beliefs and social skills, in addition to investigating how structural racism interferes within these relationships and identifying how children deal with the formation of their ethnic-racial identity. The methodology used was a qualitative approach, together with a review of the literature on ethnic-racial relations in Brazil. A case study was carried out on an interracial family from Campina Grande - PB. The research was based on interviews that revealed the perspective of the mother of this family, as well as reports that her daughter made to her. Through the interview, it was possible to see that, after suffering some cases of racism, the girl begins to no longer accept her own body, to reject what is part of her blackness, at the same time that her family members try to do everything to free her. of that pain, going after those responsible to obtain some type of punishment. However, the girl is still growing, and is always looking for people who resemble her, seeking this construction of “self” as a black girl within a mostly white family.
