Da chita ao cetim: o processo de estilização da Quadrilha Junina Maria Chiquinha na cidade de Cachoeira dos Índios – PB (2004-2017).

Abstract

This research seeks to investigate how and why the process of cultural stylization of the june dance group (Quadrilha) Maria Chiquinha, in Cachoeira dos Índios (Paraíba), aiming to understand it as a pulsating art that changes in steps, clothes and music between the years 2004 until 2017. And, taking the square dance as a manifestation of popular culture, this present work, methodologically and theoretically, is affiliated with the study of Oral History, Local History and cultural heritage. The sources are photos and bibliographical research, to establish greater understanding within this scope and work on heritage recognition. To effectively perform it with orality, we used interviews with some of the artists responsible for Maria Chiquinha, to investigate how the stylized aspects entered the gang, how it was constituted and established. Thus, the cultural path of this tradition and heritage can be analyzed, with an analytical perspective in an exploratory manner. In this sense, the concept given by Eric Hobsbawm about “tradition” is used to guide the understanding of the changes arising from stylization.
