Ensino de Gramática: o uso dos advérbios no gênero música sob a perspectiva funcionalista.

Abstract

In the last decades, grammar teaching has been the object of much criticism by language scholars. There is dissatisfaction with the treatment given to grammar in the school space, and this happens, perhaps, because this teaching is still primarily based on the study of metalanguage, the rules of normative grammar, which does not effectively contribute to the development of students' communicative competence. Within grammatical approaches, we highlight the study of word classes, more specifically adverbs, which, in the view of normative grammar, are treated in a very simplistic way, not allowing the student to understand the importance of this class for the construction of socially circulating texts. Therefore, the academic work aims to develop a study with the objective of analyzing, from the perspective of linguistic functionalism, the use of adverbs in the music genre. As a theoretical foundation, we rely primarily on the studies by Travaglia (2009) and Possenti (1996), which deal with the conceptions and types of grammar; on the studies of contextualized grammar teaching by Antunes (2007, 2014); on the postulates of Neves (1997) and Cunha (2008) regarding Linguistic Functionalism; and on the contributions of Bakhtin (2000) and Marcuschi (2010) regarding textual/discursive genres.This is a qualitative research, supported by bibliographic and descriptive research methods to compose its corpus, we selected five songs listened by people of different age groups and cultures. The analysis conducted on the songs evidences the importance of the grammatical class of adverbs in understanding the global meaning of the text, as within a context of use, they can assume different meanings and functions. Furthermore, we have noticed some inconsistencies in normative-oriented grammars regarding the classification of this grammatical category.
