Convergências teóricas entre literatura e cinema: a personagem como categoria analítica.

Abstract

This research investigates the possibility of applying the theories of classification for literary character to the film character. It checks the way people understand the character as a fiction being and an element from the text. It gets supported by the relationship between film and literature to propose a theory, at first directed to literature, to be used as a background for a study about a category of film. Regarding the character, we rely on the studies of Brait (1999), Cândido (2005), Foster (1985), Gancho (2002), Segolin (1999) and Moisés (1979). Regarding the actual film character, we take as a basis the text of Gomes (2005. We consider some characters which were selected as our object of observation; they were taken from different filmic narratives and were used to verify the possibility of application of theory that we proposed.
