A importância dos símbolos culturais na paisagem do município de Aurora/CE: uma análise a partir do ensino de geografia.

Abstract

Geography, as a discipline, investigates the relationships between humans and the space they inhabit, being much more than just a mere description of places. Over time, humans have modified the landscape, creating ways to express themselves and demonstrate their uniqueness, giving rise to culture. In this way, cultural symbols were created, forms that go beyond the visible but are deeply rooted in societies. Therefore, the teaching of Geography must be combined with cultural and social aspects to be truly meaningful. By incorporating cultural aspects of students' experiences and the social dynamics that make up the space, the teaching is internalized in a more critical and relevant way. This research aims to analyze the importance of cultural symbols in the landscape of the municipality of Aurora/CE, highlighting how these elements reflect and shape local identity, while evaluating the role of Geography teaching in understanding and valuing these symbols by students. To do so, the present research presents two methodological dimensions: one qualitative and another quantitative, with a sampling approach. In the first phase, a discussion of literary works on the subject was conducted, followed by a field research in some of the main locations in the region, where 4 distinct areas were visited to understand their importance in relation to what was studied. Semi-structured questionnaires were administered to the students who participated in the research. The results revealed how the approaches to Geography teaching contribute to the re-signification and appreciation of the cultural symbols present in the landscape.
