Análise do uso e ocupação das margens do açude do Governo em Santa Cruz – PB e suas implicações socioambientais.

Abstract

Bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes and dams, are fundamental elements for ecological balance, serving as habitat for a vast biodiversity and playing a crucial role in climate regulation and the supply of drinking water. However, increasing urbanization has been putting pressure on these areas, raising challenges regarding the sustainable use and protection of these areas. The government reservoir located in the municipality of Santa Cruz, in Paraíba, currently faces a series of environmental challenges that compromise both the local ecosystem and the quality of life of the population. These problems, aggravated by the lack of basic sanitation infrastructure and adequate urban planning, put the sustainability of the reservoir at risk and require urgent actions for recovery and preservation. Understanding the complexity of these issues is essential to envision effective and lasting solutions. This study analyzed the use and occupation of the banks of the government reservoir in Santa Cruz, PB, and its socio- environmental implications, conducting a survey of the history of construction and management of the reservoir, empirical study of the environment and bibliographic resources with emphasis on the analysis of use and occupation. The research highlights the importance of effective public policies to combat water pollution, biodiversity loss and soil degradation. The study suggests sustainable practices, such as reforestation, public policies for soil conservation and rational use of water, as essential solutions to reduce environmental damage and preserve the ecosystem.
