Abstract

The representation of women in Sociology textbooks is a matter of significant importance, as these publications play a fundamental role in shaping students' perceptions and understanding of complex social dynamics. How sociological concepts are presented, along with who the key protagonists are in sociological narratives, significantly influences students' perspectives on the world and human relationships. The aim of this study is to investigate and analyze the representation of women in Sociology textbooks, with the purpose of promoting a more equitable and critical representation. This entails examining how women are portrayed in terms of their roles in society, their contributions to the sociological discipline, and the approach to gender-related issues in instructional materials. The methodology employed in this study is based on a comprehensive literature review. A critical analysis of existing literature on the topic of women's representation in Sociology textbooks was conducted, incorporating contributions from various authors and researchers. The literature review allowed for an in-depth assessment of the trends, challenges, and opportunities related to this representation. The representation of women in Sociology textbooks is an unquestionably relevant subject. Promoting a more equitable and critical representation of women in these materials is essential for building a more inclusive and enriching education. The literature review conducted in this study highlighted the need to expand attention to women's contributions to the sociological discipline, as well as to address gender-related issues more comprehensively in instructional materials. This more equitable representation can lead to a more comprehensive understanding of complex social dynamics and the promotion of gender equality in society.
