Entre a tradição e o carisma: o papel das lideranças na construção política de Camalaú-PB.

Abstract

This article deals with the forms of domination and political dispute in the municipality of Camalaú - PB. More specifically, I seek to understand how the rise of Sandro Môco in 2016, here seen as a charismatic leader, brought about changes in a power structure historically centered on the traditional oligarchy of the Chaves family, which competed only with another family, the Mariano family. This article is a case study that allowed both the analysis of the dynamics of the electoral political game from the perspective of the city's residents, and the motivations that led them to legitimize the power of a leader. First, I conducted a bibliographic

review on the subject of the work and, then, I conducted documentary research and semi- structured interviews with supporters of the Chaves, Mariano and Sandro Môco families. The

analyses developed throughout the article allowed us to conclude that Sandro's election to the position of mayor represented not only a change in the power configurations of the municipality, but also a symbolic movement of contestation by the electorate to the traditional historical dominance.
