Abstract

This research investigates the environmental perception of users in a Basic Family Health Unit (UBSF), with an emphasis on the welcoming visual quality perceived through Interior Design. Anchored in the concept of the ambience of the Unified Health System (SUS), this study seeks to understand how the design of spaces, especially in areas such as the waiting room and reception, influences the visual perception and sense of welcome of users. Due to the long waiting times, these environments become places of permanence, which increases the importance of a welcoming and functional design. The methodology adopted covers two main dimensions. The first, of an environmental nature, uses theories of perceived visual quality and facets, enabling a detailed, multidimensional analysis of visual characteristics and interior design. The second dimension is based on visual language theory, examining how the visual elements present in spaces are perceived, identified and compared in the different scenarios analyzed. The results of the survey, obtained through the evaluation of 360 participants, revealed a significant deficit in the sense of welcome provided by the unit, highlighting the need for improvements in the perceived visual quality of the environment. These data reinforce the importance of improving the internal environments of the UBSF, not only to optimize the user experience, but also to make care in the public health system more humanized and efficient. In this way, the study contributes to the understanding and development of Interior Design solutions that enhance the well-being and satisfaction of users, considering visual elements that directly impact their perception and experience in the spaces where they spend time.
