dc.description.resumoO trabalho busca avaliar o comportamento funcional de um secador tipo cascata, quando da secagem de milho em escala comercial, com vistas ao levantamento de informações pertinentes ao processo e procedimentos de secagem. Os testes foram baseados na determinação das características iniciais do produto e de fatores de operação, tais como: volume de ar de secagem, temperatura de secagem, temperatura do produto, tempo de secagem e consumo de lenha, além da determinação do rendimento do sistema. Os resultados encontrados permitiram verificar que o sistema opera dentro das temperaturas recomendadas, abaixo de 70ºC; entretanto, apresenta baixo rendimento. O rendimento médio em rodízio foi de 18,49 t/h, para reduzir a umidade inicial de 20,65% a uma umidade final de 13,29%. O consumo médio de lenha foi da ordem de 1,52 m3de lenha por operação.pt_BR

dc.description.abstractThis work intends to evaluate the functional behavior of a cascade type dryer, when drying corn at commercial scale. The tests were based on initial characteristics of the product and factors of operation, such as: air volume for drying, temperature of the product, drying time and wood consumption, besides the determination of the system performance. The results allowed verifying that the system operates inside of recommended temperatures, below 70ºC, but presents low performance. The average drying capacity in the looping mode was 18.49 ton/h, to reduce the initial moisture of 20,65% to a final value of 13.29%. The average firewood consumption was in the order of 1.52 m3 in each operation.pt_BR
