As mulheres negras escravizadas na Villa Real de São João do Cariri: o cotidiano no sertão do Cariri paraibano (1850-1884).

Abstract

This dissertation addresses the context of slavery in the second half of the 19th century, seeking to examine the relationships between enslaved black women, taking into account the forms of resistance operated by them in the interior of Paraiba of Northern, more specifically in the backlands of Cariri paraibano, in Villa Real de Sao Joao do Cariri. For this purpose, the social and historical context in which these women were inserted will be analyzed. In this sense, the research will be located in the dimension of Social History and will have as its theoretical methodological contribution Historical Materialism, using for this purpose, Thompson's concepts of experience and culture and Gramsci's subaltern groups, as well as using the method of the evidentiary paradigm established by Ginzburg, carrying out from this, cross-analysis of sources, which will be baptismal and death certificates, as well as some criminal proceedings present in the District of Serra Branca - PB, under the custody of the Court of Justice of Paraiba. Corroborating this with studies focused on Black women, considering their social role as a subordinate group, which has long been hidden from local and national historiography.
