Inventando uma “Cidade Forró”: a construção da cultura musical de Monteiro-PB, desbravando os acordes da história monteirense (1990-2024).

Abstract

Music, besides being aesthetic and sonically pleasing, can say much more than what the ear can hear. This dissertation, based on the studies of Cultural History, aims to present a proposal for an analysis of the influence of cultural manifestations in the city of Monteiro - PB, where musical culture is understood as an object that has provided visibility and social progresses, economic and cultural transformations in the municipality, it also has changed the dynamics of the place, especially in the last 30 years, valuing through administrative actions for cultural preservation. Thus, analyzing the culture of the place, it8s necessary to think about the development of the city based on it, the agents involved, the processes produced, the ways in which society experiences and consumes culture and, especially, whether the native population feels inserted in this space, since it is these characters who will contribute to unleashing a History that will seek to find the historical chords that highlight this cultural force. To carry out this analysis, we relied on the studies of Demo (1985 and 1998); Chartier (1988); Hall (2006); Napolitano (2002); Pesavento (2012), among other authors as theoretical support to understand the concepts and mechanisms regarding the treatment of the objects researched. In this segment, the study will be methodologically supported by qualitative research, a necessary support for this type of research, which legitimizes the procedures that will be developed and which make it possible to identify the object being researched, in this case, how Cultural History and Oral History - through semi-structured interviews with participants from Monteiro involved in music and culture in the city 3 these instruments can be fields of possibilities in helping the studies of practices and representations that circulate in and through society.
